The Research Projects
We seek to provide students with meaningful, hands-on engineering experiences that go beyond the classroom. Our Research Projects are year-long collaborative programs that allow members to work towards CSWA and CSWP certifications while experiencing the full engineering process, developing practical skills, industry exposure, and portfolio-ready outcomes alongside like-minded peers.

Tunnel-Boring Machine
2026
Our one-year project draws inspiration from developments right here in Melbourne, where major rail expansions have recently introduced new underground train stations. A key technology behind these projects is the tunnel boring machine (TBM), a highly sophisticated system that enables efficient and precise tunnelling in dense urban environments.

Tracked UGV
2026
Our one-year project draws inspiration from the growing role of robotics and autonomous systems in real-world applications, where machines are increasingly deployed to operate in environments that are difficult, remote, or hazardous for humans. A key example of this is the Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV), a highly capable platform designed to navigate rough and unpredictable terrain while performing tasks such as environmental sampling, ranging from solids to liquids.
